Antique American Classical Empire Revival sofa featuring an exposed mahogany frame, carved swan-neck crest, dramatically scrolled arms, foliate carving and winged paw feet, upholstered in a refined sage, cream and soft gold stripe. Dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, the design draws from the Classical and Empire furniture traditions of the early 19th century.
The striped upholstery appears professionally done and shows exceptionally little use. Two removable seat cushions provide comfortable seating, and three coordinating custom pillows are included.
At approximately 83 inches wide and only 30 inches deep, the sofa offers generous seating with an unusually shallow footprint—an excellent choice for a living room, library or sitting room.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
What I love about this sofa is the balance between the dramatic carved frame and the beautifully tailored upholstery. The soft striped fabric makes the mahogany and swan details stand out without making the sofa feel overly formal, and its unusually shallow depth makes it far easier to place than many antique sofas of this scale.
