The Raised Laurel series was produced in … Read more 10½-inch Adams Real English Ironstone “Cries of London – Raised Laurel” dinner/display plate. The Raised Laurel series was produced in England, and only for three years 1969–1971.

Adam’s was part of the Wedgwood Group. The distinctive feature on this plate is the raised white laurel-leaf border combined with a hand-colored historical scene.

The center scene reproduces one of the famous Cries of London works by 18th-century artist Francis Wheatley, showing London street sellers and everyday life. This plate depicts the “Old Chairs to Mend” scene. The wording along the bottom includes “Old Chairs to Mend,” with Wheatley credited as the original painter and the engraver credited beneath the image. See less
