An extraordinary, highly sophisticated mid-century Balinese portrait bust depicting a young nobleman or prince. Standing 10½ inches tall, this exceptional sculpture represents a pristine pinnacle of the post-war Indonesian woodcarving renaissance, showcasing unique, documented regional provenance from the historic royal art capital of Klungkung.
The piece is hand-carved from a single, remarkably solid block of premium dense tropical hardwood with an impeccably smooth, hand-polished surface texture. The nobleman is captured with a serene, meditative facial composition, featuring gracefully downcast eyes, finely contoured lips, and stylized traditional elongated ears. He wears an elaborate, beautifully wrapped ceremonial headcloth (Udeng) that forms a dramatic sweeping fold behind his head, perfectly balanced by a magnificent, deeply chiseled floral rosette blossom pinned over his right temple. The smooth contours of his bare chest transition cleanly into a draped traditional textile wrapping.
The underside of the base features a crisp, hand-incised regional stamp reading "KLUNGKUNG / BALI", offering advanced collectors rare, specialized geographical provenance outside the standard export channels. Preserved in immaculate qgallery condition, this showcase sculpture is entirely complete with absolutely no checking, structural splits, chips, or restorations.

The specific linguistic character of the hand-carved "Klungkung Bali" block stamp combined with the highly stylized yet realistic treatment of the facial features strongly isolates this piece to the golden age of the 1950s export market. This was an era when regional arts councils cataloged top-tier artisan works for elite international design boutiques.
