On offer is a set of four Tulip Sixty armchairs. This compact, swiveling luxury armchair was designed by American designer Jeffrey Bernett for the prestigious Italian manufacturing house B&B Italia. It features a signature 360-degree swivel mechanism, a distinct sculptural tub shape with curved back cuts, and a 4-spoke die-cast polished chrome base. B&B Italia furniture pieces—manufactured in their historic Novedrate, Italy headquarters and designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers—are heavily collected and recognized as icons of modern European design.
DESIGN: Introduced as a scaled-down evolution of Bernett's original, larger "Tulip" lounge chair designed in 2000, the Tulip Sixty variant mimics the compact footprint and dimensions of a standard dining or guest chair. Introduced globally in 2008, it was built specifically for high-end contract projects, corporate meeting rooms and premium hotel lounge installations worldwide. It was produced through the mid 2010s.
MATERIALS: The chairs were built with a tubular steel inner frame encased in B&B Italia's trademark Bayfit flexible cold-shaped polyurethane foam. Based on the design records and official collection specifications for Jeffrey Bernett's pieces, these chairs are upholstered in B&B Italia's premium "Gamma" Leather (Category Gamma). B&B Italia utilized a structured pricing and material hierarchy ranging from standard to ultra-luxury. Gamma was categorized as one of their highest-tier luxury leather grades.
Gamma leather undergoes a meticulous through-dyeing process (aniline or semi-aniline) that allows the natural, supple texture of the skin to remain highly breathable and soft to the touch. It features a protective, lightly pigmented matte finish. This makes it significantly more resistant to fading, scratching, and liquid stains compared to raw full-aniline hides, balancing daily functionality with exceptional luxury.
