A striking late 19th-century Victorian Jacobean Revival high-back chair, showcasing an exceptionally elaborate bobbin-turned frame and dramatic architectural silhouette.
This substantial antique chair features an extraordinarily detailed turned construction, with rows of hand-turned bobbin and ring elements extending throughout the tall back, legs, stretchers, and connecting rails. The high back is centered by a shaped vertical wood panel and crowned with turned finials, giving the chair an especially commanding presence.
The deep, dark wood finish beautifully complements the rich crimson velvet upholstery, which is framed with traditional brass nailhead trim. The combination of dark wood and saturated red velvet gives the chair an unmistakably Victorian, Renaissance Revival character.
The chair is particularly striking from every angle, with extensive turning continuing around the frame rather than being limited to the front-facing elements. The substantial stretchers provide additional architectural detail and visual weight.
A wonderful statement chair for a library, study, foyer, dressing room, bedroom, or richly layered Victorian-inspired interior.

The wood frame is sturdy and presents beautifully, with an attractive aged finish and extensive turned detailing. The chair has been professionally/restored and reupholstered at some point in its history. As evidence of the previous upholstery, there are a few small nail holes along the seat frame from earlier upholstery work. These are minor and consistent with the chair’s age and restoration history and do not detract from its overall presentation. Upholstery is clean and securely finished with decorative brass nailhead trim. less
