This is a magnificent vintage Chinese jewelry box / treasure chest, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship. The main body is constructed of solid, dark red hardwood (likely Hongmu or Rosewood) with a beautiful grain.
The piece is heavily embellished with white metal (possibly white copper) repoussé mounts. The front features two doors with detailed cast metal panels depicting elegant female figures (probably court ladies) surrounded by clouds. The sides are inscribed with traditional Chinese couplets "龙腾华夏，凤舞神州" (Dragons soaring across China, Phoenixes dancing over the land), signifying prosperity and good fortune. The top lid and corners are also reinforced with decorated metal fittings.
