The figure has a gloss white glazed surface with an applied granular and textured treatment to the coat, giving the characteristic shredded-clay appearance associated with Staffordshire-style ceramic animal figures.

The body is hollow moulded ceramic with a large irregular basal firing or vent opening. Cream-to-buff ceramic body is visible at the opening, with areas of the underside left unglazed and showing irregular hand finishing. The rectangular moulded base incorporates small projecting feet.

This example is unmarked. Supplied research documents a matching companion from the same paired model bearing a “Germany” mark, and therefore favours German manufacture in the Staffordshire style, probably from the early 20th century, rather than a Victorian English Staffordshire attribution. The maker remains unidentified.
