Vintage 1996 Westmoore Pottery redware charger by Seagrove, North Carolina potter David Farrell, hand decorated with traditional slip-trailed floral and foliate motifs.
The 12-inch shallow dish is made from red earthenware with a rich dark blue ground accented in cream, ochre and green. Its stylized flower, scrolling leaves and rhythmic border draw from the early American and Moravian pottery traditions for which Westmoore is known.
Founded in 1977 by David and Mary Farrell, Westmoore Pottery specializes in historically inspired earthenware based on 17th-, 18th- and early 19th-century forms and decoration. An especially appealing piece for a collection of Seagrove pottery, Southern folk pottery or American redware.
Signed/incised on the reverse Westmoore Pottery, 1996 and Farrell.
