An extraordinary pair of vintage sculptural accent lamps handcrafted from natural conch shells and genuine starfish, combining organic seaside materials with the exuberant glamour of Hollywood Regency and Palm Beach Regency design.
Each lamp features a large natural conch shell dramatically mounted above a sprawling starfish base. When illuminated, the shells glow from within in remarkable shades of coral, pink, amber and orange, transforming the natural shell into a sculptural source of atmospheric light.
The imaginative use of shells and other natural specimens recalls the fantastical interiors and objets associated with Tony Duquette, while the sculptural treatment of the shell as lighting relates to vintage designs by Sirmos and Serge Roche. Their combination of exotic natural materials, whimsy and decorative luxury also brings to mind the work of Maitland-Smith.
Far more than conventional nautical décor, these lamps have an almost Surrealist naturalism: part specimen, part sculpture and part lighting object. Their unusual low proportions make them particularly striking on a console, cocktail bar, bedside tables or incorporated into a layered maximalist interior.
A wonderful statement pair for a Palm Beach, Hollywood Regency, coastal maximalist, tropical modern, British Colonial or organic modern interior.
