The broad circular platter is sculpted with raised clusters of grapes, apples, pears and leaves against a wonderfully tactile woven ground, giving the monochromatic piece surprising depth and dimension.

A raised circular well at the center makes the piece particularly suited to entertaining, functioning beautifully as a chip-and-dip, crudité, fruit or hors d'oeuvres platter. The glossy white-on-white treatment gives the rustic fruit motif a fresh, sculptural quality that works equally well in Mediterranean, French Country, Hollywood Regency, Traditional or contemporary interiors.

Loucarte was a Portuguese ceramics maker producing decorative and table wares during the mid-20th century; comparable Loucarte pieces are frequently dated to the 1960s and 1970s. The basketweave and dimensional fruit decoration is also found on other documented Loucarte serving pieces.

Marked on the underside “Loucarte / Made in Portugal.”
