The lamp rests on an ornate tripod base composed of deeply pierced scrolling foliate decoration, terminating in rounded feet. The tall central standard is equally decorative, with spiral detailing and an unusual coiled-metal accent surrounding the shaft. Above is a substantial urn-form reservoir/body embellished with applied scrolling floral and foliate ornament.

The upper assembly is clearly marked “The B&H” for Bradley & Hubbard, Meriden, Connecticut.

Originally designed during the kerosene/oil-lamp era, the lamp has been electrified for modern use. The glass globe presently shown with the lamp is a later replacement and is not original to the lamp.

The dark patinated metal finish beautifully emphasizes the elaborate relief and openwork decoration and gives the lamp a dramatic sculptural presence even when not illuminated.

Measuring 59 inches high with a 17-inch-wide tripod base, the lamp has an elegant, tall silhouette well suited beside a piano, reading chair, library seating area, or as a decorative statement lamp.
