Originating from the … Read more Elevate your collection or tea service with this exquisite, authentic antique hand-painted porcelain sugar and creamer set. Originating from the historic Nippon period (1891–1921), this matched duo features a soft pastel, almost peach, pink ground adorned with lush, delicate greenery, and vibrant pink and magenta roses. The composition is embellished with intricate turquoise scrollwork, and high-purity liquid gold gilding and raised gold relief moriage detailing.

Both pieces feature a dramatic Rococo-revival form with scalloped rims and four delicate cabriole feet with gilded accents. The creamer includes an ornate high-arch loop handle, while the sugar bowl exhibits a wide open rim perfect for serving or vanity display. 

The creamer carries the verified blue circular backstamp reading "ORIENTAL CHINA NIPPON" around a central floral emblem (cataloged in Van Patten's Collector’s Encyclopedia of Nippon Porcelain as Mark #70). 

The "Nippon" Import Window (1891–1921): The word NIPPON was required on Japanese export items bound for the U.S. following the McKinley Tariff Act of 1890. In 1921, U.S. Customs changed the labeling rule to require "JAPAN" (or "MADE IN JAPAN") in English. This firmly places the production date between 1891 and 1921.

Design & Marking Specifics: The "ORIENTAL CHINA NIPPON" backstamp (Van Patten #70) and heavy gold paste relief combined with turquoise scrollwork reached peak production between 1900 and 1915.
