Found in Lancaster, Pennsylvania — probably Lancaster County, circa 1840-1850s
A wonderful example of Pennsylvania Dutch/German folk art chair decoration, with a dark red base paint, hand-painted floral motifs, and what appears to be smoke decoration — a specialized paint technique used primarily in Lancaster and Berks Counties for the Pennsylvania German community in the early-to-mid 19th century. Retains its original, untouched painted surface.

Condition: Very nice overall condition. Original painted surface, untouched. Wear marks consistent with age and use, including age-appropriate wear to the seat and stretchers.
