The following excerpt reviews the multicultural design influences as well as the crafts people who worked there:
“Stylewise, Lapid was influenced by local archeology as well as Scandinavian pottery—this kind of mixture is very Israeli. Lapid’s designers brought influences from the countries they came from, and at the factory, Jews, Christians, and Muslims worked together. Arabs, from Jaffa as well as the occupied territories, worked there. I asked workers if there were any tensions between Jews and Arabs at the factory during the Six-Day War or the Yom Kippur War, and they answered: No, people came to work, worked hard and at the end of the day went home.”
Opened in 1947, and finally closing in 1990, Lapid continues to excite interest as unique, collectible and distinctive art pottery. See less
