Whimsical vintage decorative box designed in the form of a Chinese-inspired pagoda or pavilion, with a wonderful architectural silhouette and removable fitted lid. The exterior features colorful hand-painted-style Chinoiserie decoration against a softly aged cream ground, accented with touches of gold.
The imagery is especially charming, with playful monkeys, exotic birds, scrolling foliage, flowers, classical urns and fanciful ornamental motifs wrapping around the various panels. The sloping roof and small hexagonal top give the box a delightful miniature architectural quality.
The interior is finished in a simple ivory/cream, providing a lovely contrast to the elaborate exterior. Visible age-related patina, surface wear and discoloration contribute to its vintage character.
A wonderfully eccentric Hollywood Regency/Chinoiserie accent piece, perfect for a coffee table, vanity or bookshelf—and beautiful for storing jewelry or other small treasures.
