Charming vintage American folk art Christmas sculpture depicting Santa Claus as a traditional toymaker, seated in his workshop and hand-painting a miniature metal toy train. Santa features an expressive hand-painted face, wire-rim glasses, white beard and classic red felt suit with white trim, while a miniature ladder-back chair and crocheted rug add wonderful handcrafted detail.
Mounted on a substantial rustic wood plank base, this whimsical artisan-made Christmas vignette has the nostalgic character of traditional country and Americana holiday décor. An illegible artist’s signature is present along the base.
Likely dating to the late 1980s–early 1990s, this one-of-a-kind folk art Santa makes a distinctive addition to a collection of vintage Christmas decorations, Santa figures, American folk art or handcrafted holiday décor.
