An exceptional and rare pair of early 20th-century art deco bentwood armchairs (Model A 967/F), designed circa 1904–1906 by the … Read more An exceptional and rare pair of early 20th-century art deco bentwood armchairs (Model A 967/F), designed circa 1904–1906 by the celebrated Munich architect Emanuel von Seidl and produced by Thonet Mundus. Documented in historic Thonet sales catalogs, the armchairs are characterized by their sculptural horseshoe-shaped crest rail that flows seamlessly into the integrated armrests. The open back features Seidl’s signature central vasiform splat flanked by two vertical dowels, paired with a contoured molded plywood saddle seat and an arched front leg stretcher. Condition Report: Preserved in very good original, unrestored vintage condition. The solid bentwood frames are structurally sound, completely stable, and tight at all joints. The original dark stained finish retains a rich historic patina with honest, age-consistent edge rubbing along the armrests and seat rim, accentuating the sculptural lines of the wood. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
