Pair ''Gazelle'' accent chairs by Dan Johnson/Shelby Williams for Crucible Furniture Co. Iconic design with elegant cast aluminum legs. Newly professionally restored. Maker's mark inscribed on legs (see photos).
Designed by Dan Johnson (American, 1918-1979). Mr. Johnson operated a studio in Italy during the 1950s. Inspired by ancient art, he designed the ''Gazelle'' chairs based on Roman bronzes and their depictions of animals.
The chairs were produced by Crucible Furniture Co. in New York City under license with Shelby Williams circa 1960.
