Originating from the traditional puppet arts of Java, Indonesia, Wayang Golek figures are characterized by carved and hand-painted wooden heads, articulated forms, elaborate textile costumes, and slender control rods. Each figure in this pair is dressed in wonderfully detailed patterned batik-style textiles in complementary neutral, blue, green, purple, and ochre tones.

The puppets have been mounted against a warm woven textile background and enclosed behind glass in deep, dark-stained wood frames. The understated Mid-Century-style presentation allows the intricate figures and textiles to take center stage.

Especially appealing displayed together, the pair has a sculptural quality that works beautifully with Mid-Century Modern, global modern, eclectic, bohemian, and collected interiors.
