Beautiful antique Art Nouveau/Art Deco "Fire Dance" flapper bookends. They were designed and manufactured by various commercial metal foundries during the mid-to-late 1920s. Each individual piece typically features the design production number "500" molded directly into its base. These bookends were produced in the United States. This specific design was widely distributed through major retailers, famously appearing as a catalog feature in the 1927 Sears Catalog. They are constructed from a heavy base white metal (often referred to as spelter) and finished with a colored enamel or patinated overlay.
Loïe Fuller (1862–1928) was an American dancer, choreographer, and theatrical pioneer who became one of the most influential figures of the Art Nouveau and early Art Deco movements. Born Marie Louise Fuller in Illinois, she completely transformed the world of stage performance without any formal dance training.
These are a wonderful pair to add to any bookshelf. These are pre-owned items so please see all pictures and ask any questions.
