The slender, fluted legs and stepped proportions create a calm, clearly structured appearance. Historical context: Nesting tables – also known as tables gigognes – originated in late 18th-century England and became a common type of furniture in middle-class homes during the 20th century. Their principle of sliding tables together combined space-saving design with flexible use: individual tables could be pulled out as needed for guests, tea service, or storage. Furniture of this type was primarily used in living rooms and drawing rooms and often drew on historical stylistic models such as the English Regency. Features: Turned, fluted legs with a vase-shaped base on all three tables. Inlays with gold-colored decorative border, each beneath a glass top. Design: The set is based on the English Regency style: slender, tapered legs with fluting, curved aprons, and profiled tabletop edges. The three tables are formally identical and differ only in size, giving the set a cohesive look. Dimensions: Largest table: Height 52 × Width 53 × Depth 40 cm. The two smaller tables are correspondingly sized and can be fully tucked under the largest table. Material and Condition: Mahogany, inlays beneath glass tops.
