The model owes its distinctive nickname to its characteristic silhouette: The narrow waist of the organically curved seat shell is unmistakably reminiscent of the shape of an ant. Jacobsen’s pioneering achievement lay in bending the seat and backrest from a single, continuous piece of laminated bentwood. This version is the original, three-legged model. At the time, Jacobsen insisted on the three-legged design, as it gave the chair an unparalleled lightness and stability on any surface. The chair features a classic black lacquer finish on an elegant chrome-plated tubular steel frame.
