A Very Fine Antique Queen Anne Splat-Back Side Chair, Boston, Circa 1750
Ex. Ginsburg & Levy Antiques, Inc., New York
A beautifully preserved example of Boston Queen Anne chairmaking, featuring a superb ring-and-ball turned front stretcher and well-turned, squared front legs. The early rush seat is likely a period-appropriate replacement. The chair retains an old refinished surface, circa 1900, with fine gold paint pinstriping — itself now a desirable early layer of the chair's history.
