An original Telenorma secondary clock, once one of dozens of identical dials wired into a single synchronized timekeeping network across a German station or factory floor.
Telenorma traces its origins to 1899, when the twenty year old Frankfurt businessman Harry Fuld founded a company that rented out telephone systems rather than selling them outright, an unusual model for its time. The company developed a second specialty in standard time, supplying the German railway with synchronized time for station clocks transmitted from a central signal at its Frankfurt headquarters. A single master clock sent an electrical pulse once every minute down a shared wire to every secondary clock connected to it, allowing an entire station, office or factory floor to display identical time from a single source, decades before wireless networks existed. Telenorma supplied these systems to Germany's railway stations, post offices, schools and factories through the 1950s and 1960s, before the company became part of the Bosch group.
This dial is one of those secondary units, renovated and semi-polished, fitted with a new acrylic glass cover and a fresh white dial while the original hands remain in place. As the master network it once belonged to no longer exists, the clock is paired with a small pulse generator that reproduces the original signal, 24 volts at one pulse per minute.
The clock has a diameter of 45 cm and a depth of 9 cm. This piece has an attribution mark,
