MID-20TH CENTURY CHANNEL-BACK LOUNGE CHAIR
A striking mid-20th-century channel-back lounge chair, circa 1940s–1950s, distinguished by its dramatic sculptural silhouette and exceptionally handsome proportions. The broad, fan-shaped back is formed by deep vertical channels that flow gracefully into softly rolled arms, creating an enveloping profile that is elegant from every angle.
The chair retains its original vintage upholstery, believed to be a wool or wool-blend textile, featuring a finely woven surface with a subtle raised dot motif. Rather than replacing this distinctive original fabric, the upholstery has been color-refinished in a rich black, preserving its woven texture and dimensional detailing while giving the chair a sophisticated contemporary presence.
Graceful cabriole-style legs have been refinished in a very dark almond tone, providing subtle warmth and contrast against the black upholstery. The chair is unmarked, but its substantial proportions, firm supportive seat, tailored upholstery work, and solid construction speak to its quality.
With its combination of traditional cabriole legs, sculptural rolled arms, and dramatic channel back, this chair bridges Hollywood Regency, Traditional, and Transitional design beautifully. The newly darkened palette gives the piece a particularly versatile designer quality, equally at home in a sophisticated living room, bedroom, library, dressing room, or collected modern interior.
The chair retains the character and craftsmanship of its vintage construction while its refreshed color palette gives it an entirely new presence. An especially compelling choice as a statement chair, with a silhouette attractive enough to be displayed where both the front and back can be appreciated.

CONDITION
Very good vintage condition with age-appropriate character consistent with a mid-20th-century piece. WHY WE LOVE IT
It’s all about the silhouette. The dramatic fan-shaped channel back, sweeping rolled arms, and beautifully curved legs give this chair a presence that is increasingly difficult to find in contemporary furniture. We especially love that the original textured upholstery was preserved rather than replaced—the new black coloration emphasizes every channel and curve while allowing the character of the vintage textile to remain part of the design.
