A shell-shaped asparagus plate by Sarreguemines, circa 1900 - four available.
Hand-painted burgundy and green rims, asparagus spears in full relief fanning across a creamy white ground, crowned by an elaborate baroque cartouche. Because in 19th century France, even a vegetable deserved a little theatre.
Referenced in Maryse Bottero's definitive book "Artichauts et Asperges en Barbotine" - a collector's piece hiding in plain sight on a beautiful table.
Varnish is slightly crazed on some parts. One plate is slightly more pale (picture 4). This piece has an attribution mark,
