Empire or Directoire period clock,
French work, circa 1800.
Made of mercury-gilt bronze and polished with agate
. It rests on a sea-green marble base.
The movement is housed in a cabinet decorated with book spines in a library. A woman leans on the back, reading on one side; on the other, an armillary sphere.
The base is supported by four feet shaped like spinning tops.
In good condition, the clock comes with its original pendulum
. There is a crack in the dial and a restoration to the marble base.
The mechanism is in working order.
