An Art Deco Gouda pottery bowl produced by Zuid in Holland in 1923. Decorated in the highly distinctive Collier pattern, this hand-painted earthenware bowl showcases the bold colour palette and stylised ornament that made Dutch Gouda pottery internationally celebrated during the early twentieth century. The semi-shallow circular bowl is moulded with subtle vertical ribs that divide the exterior into softly rounded segments, creating a gentle lotus-like profile. The deep black exterior provides a dramatic contrast to the richly decorated interior, where radiating panels of cobalt blue, deep orange, and turquoise green are arranged around an intricate scrolling central motif. The decoration is painted against an ivory crackled ground and enriched with finely applied gold detailing. A broad scalloped rim is finished in ivory and decorated with repeating gilt scroll motifs and geometric accents, framing the vibrant interior and reinforcing the bowl's strong Art Deco character. The underside bears the painted Zuid factory mark together with the Dutch house motif, the double-diamond date code identifying production in 1923, the pattern name Collier, and the artist's hand-painted signature. A striking decorative object, the bowl is equally suited as a centrepiece or as part of a collection of Dutch Art Deco ceramics. Condition is very good for its antique age. There are a few small hairline cracks around the rim, including one with a tiny associated chip. Age-related crazing is present to the glaze, while the enamels remain bright and vibrant. General surface wear is consistent with age and use. Dimensions Height: 7 cm (2.76 in.) Diameter: 26.5 cm (10.43 in.) This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
