Handcrafted from an inflated and stretched camel bladder, this spherical shade is entirely hand painted with an unusually decorated all-over repeating gilt floral pattern set against a rich red ground—a design encountered far less frequently than the more typical compartmentalized floral motifs seen on antique camel bladder lamp diffusers. Originally designed to fit over the base of an oil or early electric lamp, these diffusers softened the light to create a warm ambient glow.

Pieces like this are increasingly difficult to find intact due to the fragile organic material. This example displays a beautiful aged surface with expected patina that complements both traditional and eclectic interiors.
