This was a signature tradition of Chinese ceramics that reached global prominence during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
The vessel features several distinct design motifs characteristic of this style:
First, the main motif is the Peony Scroll / Ch缠枝牡丹). The central band showcases stylized peony blossoms surrounded by leafy, scrolling vines. In Chinese culture, the peony represents prosperity, wealth, and honor.
Second, circling just below the rim is a classic scalloped lappet border that frames the dense floral scrolling underneath. Third, the lower border is presented as a repeating pattern of bold, diagonal blue and white stripes, often referred to as a gadroon border or stylized leaf lappets, which visually anchors the tapering shape of the planter.
