A charming antique French barbotine majolica asparagus serving platter dating to the late 19th century. Hand molded and hand painted, this beautifully sculptural serving piece features a raised asparagus cradle framed by a richly textured basketweave border, vibrant turquoise accents, and leafy green details. Originally designed to present fresh asparagus while allowing excess water to drain beneath the raised insert, it is both functional and highly decorative.

Sourced in Paris, this platter celebrates one of France’s most beloved ceramic traditions. The same model of French barbotine asparagus serving platter was also owned by the legendary horticulturist and tastemaker Bunny Mellon, whose celebrated collection reflected her appreciation for botanical beauty and timeless design. Today, it makes an exceptional display piece for a kitchen, dining room, or garden inspired tablescape.

With its sculptural relief, richly saturated glazes, and generous proportions, this antique platter is a wonderful example of French barbotine pottery and an increasingly difficult form to find.
