A charming Chinese export-style famille rose covered butter dish in the Qianlong manner, beautifully hand-painted with delicate floral sprays in the traditional famille rose palette of soft pinks, greens, and subtle gilt accents. Raised on sculptural animal-form feet with coordinating animal-head details, this elegant porcelain serving piece reflects the decorative wares produced for the European export market during the 18th century.
The underside bears a painted Qianlong mark. Marks of this type appear on both period examples (1736–1795) and later homage pieces; accordingly, this piece is offered and priced as Qianlong style rather than attributed to the Qianlong period.
Originally intended as a covered butter dish for the table, its refined form lends itself equally well to contemporary use as a decorative trinket box or tabletop accent. A distinctive addition to a collection of Chinese export porcelain, English country house décor, or traditional European interiors.
