This Victorian cameo, meticulously crafted from ivory, portrays a petite angel encircled by blossoms. Absolutely breathtaking! The intricately detailed image boasts an impressive size. The cameo measures 3.5 by 6 cm. This cameo does not even require a frame, since it already has its own, also carved from ivory. In addition, there is a hanging ring that allows you to use it as a pendant. On the reverse side of the cameo, the Gunther-Schräger lines are clearly visible, which are the distinguishing feature of ivory from anything else.
The era of this cameo is circa 1840-1850. It was surely carved in Dieppe, France, one of the capitals of ivory carving during the Georgian and Victorian eras. Absolutely fantastic! I have never seen anything like this one, and I really can affirm that this is a unique artwork. It is a very desirable collector's piece.
This antique treasure is in excellent condition!
