This Really is an Exceptionally Beautiful Antique American Primitive Stoneware Butter Churn Crock. Circa Approx 1870s. Butter Churns are Easily Identified as they have the Added Feature of a Recessed Top Inner Perimeter Ledge - Rim to Hold a Typically Wood Lid with a Center Hole for the Plunger.
It is Embossed with a Number 3 Confirming its Three Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It Has No Maker Mark. This is Not Uncommon with These Types of Stoneware Items even with many of the Most Prolific Makers - Producers of the Day. I can say Most Assuredly that This Churn Was Made in Upstate New by WHITE & CO. in BINGHAMTON". It is Rendered in a Classic American Style Jug Form. It has a Wonderful Uniform Color & Textured Salt Glaze Exterior. The Front of the Jug has a Large Stunning Deep Cobalt Blue Color Hand Decorated Stylized Double Flower as well as Other Added Features. The Interior Glaze is done in a Dark Coffee Brown Color.
It is in Excellent All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It has 1 Very Minor Chip at the Top Rims Inner Perimeter Rim. No other Damage - No Cracks - No Repairs. It has a Small Surface Glaze Imperfection- Brown Spot at The Base Rim Perimeter but This Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and Many Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable if so Desired.
