The exterior is finished in warm brown coating that mimics the appearance of leather or wood, a finish popular in Victorian metalware.
The interior is painted in hunter green
Hinged lid, closing with metal latch and lock
Boxes as this one were especially popular in the late 1800's for protecting and transporting hats, and judging by its size, some very extravagant examples, such as top hats and stovepipes
Crafted from lightweight tinplate, it combined portability with durability and was used by both men and women
A very appealing decor item, will do great for a side or coffee table, with large hidden storage space
Circa late 1800's early 1900's, Victorian to Edwardian era
Measurements: Approximately 23" diameter (across) x 16.5" high with the hook
