This Really is a Exceptionally Nice Looking and Quite Rare Antique Early American Blue Decorated Stoneware Storage Jar - Crock. Circa Approx 1830s. It has the Added Feature of Applied Handles - "Ears". Large Size Measuring. Approx 13.5 inches Tall x 11 inches Long - Wide. It has a Classic Early American Salt Glaze Exterior. It Also has an Extensive Assortment of Cobalt Blue Hand Decorated Features that Includes Large Beautifully Executed Stylized Double Flower Sprigs ( Front and Back Side ) with Additional Blue Decoration at The Handles. It is Stamped - Embossed "3" Denoting its Three Gallon Storage Capacity. These These Jars were Typically Used To Store Preserved Fruits - Vegetables Etc. It has No Maker Marks but I did Purchase it on one of my Recent Picking Adventures in the Lancaster Pennsylvania Region and I Believe that it is Most Likely From the Baltimore Maryland Region. It is in Excellent Condition and it Displays Beautifully From Any Angle. It is Strong - Structurally Sound - Perfectly Usable. 2 Minor Imperfections Noted - a Very Tight Faint Hairline at the Lower Left Base Area ( See Photographs in Listing ) and a 1 Very Small Chip at the Base Perimeter Rim. It has a Few Surface Glaze Kiln Flaws ( Brown Spots Etc. ) That Would Have Occurred in The Making - Firing Process. These Pieces were Made in Batches and Fired in Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time so These Types of Flaws are Quite Common.
NOTE That it Does Have a Water Stain - Calcium Deposit Ring Around the Dark Coffee Brown Color Glaze Inner Perimeter - See Photographs.
Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. Each One was Completely Hand Made & Hand Decorated out of Indigenous Clay's on a Potters Wheel from Start to Finish and Therefore No 2 are Absolutely Identical.
It Measures Overall Approx.
13 1/2 inches Tall.
11 inches Long.
11 inches Wide.
