Mahogany case with a curved base. Applied moldings on the lower case with indented corners. Middle section with a hinged, lockable front door, veneered in pyramid mahogany on mahogany. Side columns with brass decorations at the base and capital.
Profiled superstructure with a curved top. Glazed and lockable door. Side columns with brass decorations at the base and capital. Top section with side glass windows.
Brass dial with an applied, silvered chapter ring. Roman numerals from 1 to 12 for the hours, and Arabic numerals for the minutes and seconds. Small opening in the lower section for a date display. Two winding holes for the clock and striking mechanism. Striking mechanism with hour strike. Blackened hour and minute hands.
Signed plaque "John Lewis, London" in the upper section.
Case and movement without any distinctive watchmaker's marks.
The grandfather clock came to Cologne from London in 1979 and is in very good condition. This piece has an attribution mark,
