A modern op art serigraph in colors on paper titled "Attika" by Victor Vasarely. Hand signed in pencil on the lower right with an annotation of 232/300 on the lower left. Published in 1990. From a private collection. Dimensions: 48.5"h x 37.25"w x 1"d (framed). In good vintage condition.
The composition is built from overlapping angular forms in shades of black, gray, and blue, punctuated by vivid red and green striped segments that create a dynamic sense of depth and movement. Vasarely’s precise use of color contrasts and layered geometry engages the viewer’s perception, producing the illusion of shifting planes and vibrating space. A visually captivating and collectible work by the "father of Op Art."
Victor Vasarely (1906–1997), widely recognized as the "father of Op Art," earned international acclaim for his pioneering explorations of geometric abstraction and optical illusion. His work has been celebrated in major retrospectives at institutions such as the Musée National d’Art Moderne, Centre Pompidou (Paris), and the Museum of Modern Art (New York), and he represented France at the 1965 Venice Biennale. Vasarely received the Guggenheim Prize (1964), the French Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and his works are housed in leading collections worldwide, including the Tate, the Whitney Museum, and the Centre Pompidou. His bold visual language cemented him as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.
