This individual holds their position until their passing or any misconduct.
Bété life centers around religion, aiming for a harmonious connection between nature and ancestors. Most still believe in a creator God Lago, but seek help from lesser spirits. Sacrifices, rituals, and dances are crucial for maintaining good relations and protection.
Bété masks, known as "gre" are notable for their unique characteristics, such as protruding facial features, horned heads, bulging foreheads, and tubular eyes, these masks evoke fear and often depict wild animals. The "gre" mask, a decorative piece that combines materials like horns, fur, leather, and teeth, served as a means of spiritual authority, intimidating onlookers, calming chaos, and delivering justice after conflicts. These masks are worn during traditional dances, festivals, funerals, and hunting activities, as well as in times of mourning or to honor important individuals. They are seen as embodying spiritual forces and acting as protective agents. 
This wooden mask features distinct eye holes and a prominent forehead. The intricately carved design includes animal hide accents for the hair and beard. The artistic style draws inspiration from neighboring cultures, specifically the Baule people.
