Crafted from two wooden pieces, it features a visible metal trim and a locking mechanism, complete with locking pins. Its surface is adorned with diamond-shaped incised markings, exhibiting a weathered patina that suggests its past use either as a household door lock or, more commonly, as a secure closure for a granary.

Everything in this collection was in their home for more than thirty years. Africa Direct recently bought the collection; at 95, Margie wants to share the things she has loved so much.
