This hand-formed circular dish exemplifying the late twentieth-century Postmodern studio pottery movement features a complex interplay of contrasting textures and geometries. The composition is set against an unglazed, matte dark clay body. The face of the vessel is divided into asymmetric registers: a lower segment coated in a soft salmon-pink slip and an upper field flanked by two stylized, lavender-glazed crescents. Crowning the upper register is an organic, glossy black element punctuated by sharp, triangular negative spaces that reveal the dark substrate beneath.
Two dynamic, biomorphic bands dominate the foreground. Executed via a heavy slip-trailing technique, these elements exhibit a frothy, variegated texture that mimics natural crystallization or cellular structures. The fluid, looping progression of these trails establishes a stark visual counterpoint to the rigid geometric cutouts.
The reverse of the plaque, detailed in shows a raw, utilitarian finish. An integrated, hand-applied ceramic hanging lug is situated near the upper rim, indicating the artist intended the object to function interchangeably as a vessel or a wall-mounted specimen.
