19th century Swedish child’s rocking chair, crafted in pine and finished in black paint. Traditional Swedish country styling is seen throughout the form, with turned spindle legs, a spindle back, curved arms, and long runners that give the chair a classic and charming silhouette. The smaller scale makes this rocking chair especially well-suited for a larger child or a very small woman. The black painted finish (while old, likely not original to the 1800's) shows its greatest wear along the arms, seat, and front edges of the runners where it was handled and used most often, adding to the aged character of the piece. Restored, strong, stable, and ready to use. A delightful example of Swedish country craftsmanship.
