Here is a charming pair of Otagiri ceramic canisters dating to 1979 and 1980, designed as wonderfully detailed San Francisco-style Victorian houses. Each features a soft gray-white glaze accented in rich chocolate brown, with dimensional bay windows, architectural moldings, front steps and removable roof lids.
I love the two different house designs together. With their varying heights and individual architectural details, they look like a miniature pair of neighboring San Francisco Victorians. The larger even has a little chimney incorporated into its roof.
Both pieces are fully glazed inside and the entire roof lifts away, making them functional as canisters or cookie jars. They would be equally fun displayed purely decoratively on a kitchen shelf, bookshelf or grouped with other architectural ceramics.
Both are marked on the underside. Larger is © Otagiri 1979 and measures approximately 6.5"W × 6.25"D × 10"H. Smaller is © Otagiri 1980 and measures approximately 4.5"W × 4"D × 7"H.
