A 1950s double-faced railway station clock by rft (rundfunk- und fernmelde-technik), made in germany and fully restored, with its movement converted to quartz.
rft was not a single company but a collective brand for a group of state-owned telecommunications and radio manufacturers in the former german democratic republic, established in 1946. Through the 1950s and 1960s, rft produced industrial clocks for factories, railway stations and public buildings, recognized for their robust steel casings and clear, functional faces.
this example is a secondary clock of the type once driven by a central master clock to synchronize time across a station, with the double-sided face that allowed it to be read from both directions across a concourse.
the restoration retains the original steel body, refinished in a hammered grey, and the original clock hands. The light-transmitting opal dial faces have been redesigned with custom-cut numerals to match the original layout, and fitted with new transparent acrylic glass covers. The clock originally used fluorescent (tl) tube illumination; it has been modernized with an internal led strip, adjustable in brightness and colour by remote control. The mechanism has been converted to two high-torque quartz movements running on two batteries (not included), with a side access door for battery changes and a fixing point at the top for hanging.
this is a single, unique piece. As an original vintage object it shows signs of wear consistent with its working history; please review the photographs.
