A colorful phoenix … Read more Stunning, mid to late 20th century Chinese hand-painted porcelain vase decorated in the classic famille verte palette. A colorful phoenix is surrounded by flowering branches, butterflies, peonies, and stylized scholar's rocks. The shoulder is finished with an intricate scrolling floral border and the foot features a bold geometric design in turquoise, red, and gold. The underside bears an apocryphal Kangxi reign mark, a traditional decorative mark commonly used on later Chinese porcelain in homage to earlier Qing Dynasty wares. The hand-painted details and vibrant colors give the piece wonderful character and presence. A versatile statement piece for an entryway console, sideboard, dining table, or mantel. Equally beautiful displayed on its own or filled with tall branches or seasonal stems.
