Beautifully executed artisan wood carving of an open human hand and wrist.

Incredible detailing - note the joints, the fingernails, the creases in the palm.

Scaled to be approx. life size - fits my husband's hand.

Carved from a single piece, and the natural imperfections in the wood present as texture and details in the skin - amazing.

Wrist is fashioned to serve as a base, so the hand can be used to hold an object - piece of fruit? Sculptural item? Crystal or a Marble? Family Heirloom?

9" long by 4" tall by 4" wide.

Unsigned.

From a fascinating and well-travelled Virginia modern collection, so it likely has a pedigreed story.

This is just fascinating - and cool. My husband - who is a school administrator - has had it in his office holding an apple as a conversation starter, which has worked like a million bucks.

Bottom line, the work here is excellent - artisan for sure. And we've never seen another one... See less
