The new premier Deng Xiaoping set out to reform the country. He encouraged the revitalization of the Chinese arts and crafts industry in order to earn foreign cash. The results are quite evident in the arts and crafts produced during this period. One of the shining examples is the production of snuff bottles. This beautiful four sided snuff bottle is made of fine crystal, its shiny surfaces are like a glass prism surrounding a bottle shape inside with painted images. It is of two dragons encircling the bottle. One has a yellow head and the other blue, with black claws and scales highlighted in black. The dragons appear to be moving with great speed within the clouds leaving dramatic red flames. The artist Zhou Hanxin signed his name boldly in black ink. The crystal bottle is matched with a orange agate stopper without a spoon. See less
