Eagle Bay Heirlooms is pleased to offer this EXCEPTIONAL Oval Wooden Shaker Box dating to the 1980's. It contains an inscription by the Artist, "INEZ" on the under-side of the lid which reads: 'Hand Painted by INEZ, Scene at B&B Stewart's Inn, Rte 673, Stewartsville, Warren Co., NJ"

This depiction of an American Folk Art scene is of the historic Stewart Inn which was located on S. Main Street, County Route 673 in Stewartsville, NJ, this Warren County landmark is a 1770s stone manor that served as a popular bed & breakfast. Research indicates that the property operated strictly as a private estate for most of its history and then converted and opened as the Stewarts Inn Bed Breakfast in the mid-1980's

The composition of the exquisite box is of mixed woods possibly Cherry or Walnut (hardwoods) for the bent rims and bands and Pine (softwoods) for the tops and bottoms. Assuming it was originally constructed by the Shaker Community of unknown age. The finish of the wood is stunning along with the characteristic Swallowtail Fingers, one on the lid, and 3 on the box boasting copper nails.

This one of a kind piece is extraordinary with it's highly detailed painting of a bold pasture with sheep grazing in front of the stone structure and white chickens near the detailed fence. The stunning colors of the pre-autumn yellowing and orange trees against the pale blue sky is captivating.

Size: 11" Wide x 8" Wide x 4.5" High

Condition: Overall excellent condition with a small dent in the side of the wood which could be repaired by a professional. (See Photo).

Care of the Box: Keep out of direct sunlight to prevent from fading. Avoid using liquid cleaners or water, dust lightly with a dry soft cloth only.
