The arms of the fixture emanate from a central column of stacked spheres, they are curved and curled like the stylized "hooks" so often seen in Chinoiserie/East Asian decorative arts to represent waves of water or wind. Alternatively, the serpentine profile has a flair of Neoclassical that is particularly evident in the motif around each bobeche.
