An imposing Spanish Colonial Revival armchair crafted from dense hardwood with a rich, honey-brown patina. Borrowing from 17th-century Iberian Baroque forms, the chair features an upright rectangular backrest surmounted by a deeply carved and pierced foliate crest rail. The flat, robust open armrests terminate in dramatic, exaggerated scrolled volutes. Supported by heavy rectangular rear legs and stylized, zoomorphic carved front legs that feature scrolled detailing and terminate in block feet. The frame is structurally reinforced with a deeply scalloped front apron and matching undulating low stretchers. The padded backrest and fitted seat are upholstered in a later terracotta and old-gold geometric diamond-pattern textile.
The armrests terminate in dramatic, outward-facing volutes (scrolls), a classic Baroque trope that adds movement to an otherwise geometric, boxy frame.
Carved Legs: The front leg transitions into a heavily carved, stylized figure—resembling an animal motif or a scrolled console—terminating in a paw-like foot. Appears to be a dense, heavy hardwood with a pronounced grain—likely oak, walnut, or possibly aged pine/mesquite if it has a Southwestern origin. The seat and backrest are upholstered in a patterned geometric textile (reminiscent of a stylized diamond or ikat motif) in terracotta and gold tones. The fabric layout and tightness suggest it has been reupholstered more recently to match the rustic, Mediterranean aesthetic.
